5 out of 5 stars amazing   December 26, 2007

this is a great camera for all pictures. i got it yesterday for my christmas present and took ovr 100 photos, and not one of them was blurred. they were taken in low light without a flash on super high sensitivity mode and they came out perfectly. it is a great camera that looks really good and the photo quality is amazing. if you are thinking about getting a camera get this one.

The design and build are good
The 12mp chip does not really give a better picture quality than an 8mp.
The face detection works well.
The digital smart zoom results are really good
Battery life is average , would recommend a second one.
I do not like the way that sony allows you to access the red eye flash option in the menus when set in the P / M mode although in auto mode with face detection selected the red eye flash is quite clever it operates automatically when a face is detected
When set in auto mode the picture result are good to average but when set in P or M mode excellent results can be acheived.
Would I recomend it ? yes but also take a look at the Fuji alternative.

4 out of 5 stars Great camera - rubbish user guide   December 22, 2007

Typical beautifully engineered Sony product. The camera I'm sure does all you want and more, but its going to be hard to get the required information on how to use it from the supplied user docs. The paper guide tells you nearly nothing, the PDF CD guide is better but leaves out how to use some key features, for example the Program Mode. Mac users again are like second class citizens in the guide. I really would have thought Sony could do much much better.

5 out of 5 stars Sony are the best...great little camera   December 18, 2007

This is a great little camera and worth the money. It takes pictures in very low light automatically, it has face detection and many other functions. I am slowly and gradually finding out the fuctions of it as there are many of them. It is a gorgeous camera and if you want a camera that is easy to use, then buy the Sony Cybershot W200 - you won't regret it.

1 out of 5 stars Rubbish with a well known trade mark   December 18, 2007

I am a semi professional photographer and use cameras almost every day. For more serious work I have Canon 300D (it's not as good as it should be) but because of its size I can't often have it with myself so I needed to buy something smaller that fits in my pocket.
I bought this camera a week ago and have returned it back already. Partly, this is my fault as well. I had to check for more info on that camera online just before buying it, but since I had no time and wanted to get it by Christmas I trusted customers' reviews here at Amazon and decided to order. I was sort of a fan of Sony and did not even realize it could produce such a crap. After getting my package I took a few photos in my room and went running to download it and to ensure myself I had bought a really good thing. I was shocked when I saw the quality of photos. They were noisy, slightly blured but zoomed in looked even worse. Ok, I decided this is because it was dark in my room. Next day, I took it outside and it was a good weather here. I took some photos as well but they didn't look any better. A normal photo of a city street was foggy, edges were blured. When you zoom in the image in Photoshop you see that edges even in the center of an image are followed by blue and red shadows. That's horrible. You don't even need to be a pro to understand it. Almost every second image I took, were spoiled because their famous "steady shot" didn't work. It actually worked when you look at LCD monitor and try to move around, but once you take a picture it fails. By pressing a capture button I got always blinking some sign in my view finder called "Vibrations". I thought the camera should solve this kind of problems itself instead of informing me about it. No information could be found in user manuals but I got lots of advertisings along with my camera. Since I am not a newbie I decided not to give up and tried different options like: sharpening, colors and etc. nothing helped. Images still looked washed out, had some noise and interesting yellow effects as you zoom in it in Photoshop about 300%. I had the same effect by taking pictures with my expensive Sony camcorder. It was a few years ago and then I thought it was a malfunction but later I was explained that it was a camcorder not a camera so no big hopes. I must say that this camera captures video pretty well but I need a camera not a camcorder. Its image quality is very similar to the one made with mobile phones.
Finally I have no camera again, I missed getting it by Christmas and wasted much time.
